Virginia M. Thomas
President
Columbia, Maryland
Retired, past Director of Community Health for the University of Maryland Baltimore County.  Ms. Thomas served 12 years as a State Legislator in the Maryland General Assembly, and has been recognized as a legislative leader with expertise in healthcare and human services.  Prior to that she served for eight years on the Howard County Council.  Known for her community outreach and volunteer activities, Ms. Thomas currently serves as President of the Maryland Gerontological Association, and is a member of numerous other Boards and Committees. She received an M.S.W. in Psychiatric Social Work, an A.C.S.W. in Administration from Rutgers University, and a B.S. from Farleigh Dickenson University. Director since 1996.

Both a lawyer with a J.D. degree from George Washington University, and an R.N. with a Masters of Science degree from the School of Nursing at the University of Maryland. She currently serves as a member of the Board of The Horizon Foundation and of Howard County General Hospital, an affiliated member of Johns Hopkins Medicine. Marsha Ansel

Clinical Social Worker, currently the Psychogeriatric Coordinator for the Howard County Mental Health Authority.  She has over 30 years of clinical and management experience in social work, mental health and aging. Ms. Ansel is active in various State and County initiatives relating to mental health and aging. She holds an M.S.W., with a Certificate of Concentration in Aging, from the University of Maryland School of Social Work and Community Planning, and a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Social Work from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Retired, AT&T: Data Sales Manager, National Account Manager, Project Manager. NCR: National Account Manager, Marketing Manager.  Member: Howard County Commission for Women 1980-1983. She received a B.A. in Business Administration, summa cum laude, from Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland and was included in the 14th edition of Who’s Who in American Women. Director since 1999.
 
Susan Castellan
Columbia, Maryland
Group Manager with Richard Vogel’s Division of The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, one of the largest and most successful commercial construction companies in the United States. A few of her many projects with Whiting-Turner include: Project Engineer for Vantage House’s construction; promoted to Project Manager during F & G Life Headquarters construction; on-site Project Manager for construction of the Embassy of Singapore and the Embassy of Brunei in Washington, D.C.; construction of office buildings at 4100 N. Fairfax and 1602 L Street; and design and construction during a major renovation at Dumbarton Oaks, an Historic Site in Georgetown. Ms. Castellan served for a number of years as an alumni representative to prospective students for the Villanova University Engineering Department. She coached basketball with the I-270 Basketball League for almost ten years, working with 8-10 year olds. She is very active with St. John the Evangelist Parish in Columbia, MD, and has participated in numerous Committees and groups over the years. Ms. Castellan serves on the Board of Directors for the Governor’s Grant Home Owner’s Association. She is an adjunct professor at Baltimore County Community College, Catonsville, teaching a course in Construction Scheduling and Planning. She received her B.S. in Civil Engineering from Villanova University, an M.S. in Engineering Technology and Management from the University of Maryland, and received a Certificate in General Theology from the Washington Theological Union. Director since 2008.
 
Irma A. Chapin
Columbia, Maryland
Nursing Consultant, Prime Health; former Owner/Operator Millennium Health Services Facilities. Ms. Chapin was owner and operator of six nursing homes and rehabilitation centers in the Baltimore and Washington, D.C. area, with 1,500 residents and over 2,000 employees. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Quality Assurance Committee for Health Facilities Association of Maryland (HFAM), and has been recipient of its Directors Award. Director since 2004.
 
Rosemary Davis

Retired, former Executive Director; National Medical Association. She recently completed 6 years on the Board of the Horizon Foundation and is active in several community service projects. She received an M.A. from the University of Minnesota and a BA from Oberlin College. Director since 2001.
 
Lin Eagan
Columbia, Maryland
President and CEO of Lakeview Title Company, Ms. Eagan has been involved in the local real estate community since 1979. She is a past president of The Columbia Foundation, past chair of The Howard County Board of Appeals, and has served on numerous non-profit boards including FIRN and The Columbia Festival of the Arts. She is currently a member of the Howard County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, chair of the Downtown Task Force, a founding member of The New City Alliance, a member of the Bright Minds Foundation board of directors, and active on The Columbia Foundation's Leadership Council. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin, she has her BA in Spanish and English. Director since 2010.
Bobbi Fagan, Ex-Officio

President of the Vantage House Residents' Association. Retired Education Professional. Substitute Teacher at Towson University; Teacher and Administrator in Howard County Public Schools for 25 years, serving on various committees including Teacher Education, Gifted and Talented, and Special Education.  Attended Universtity of Maryland and Towson University, receiving a BS in Education and Masters of Education from Towson University. She completed post graduate studies at Johns Hopkins University for her certification in Administration and Supervision. Moved to Columbia in 1967 and was active in beginnings of the PTA, Swim Teams, Cub Scouts, Dag Hammarskjold College. Moved into Vantage House in July 2010. Chairman of Marketing Committee and Served on Resident Board since 2010. Director since 2011.

Family Council Representative. Ms Fitzgerald serves as the Vice President of the Vantage House Family Council. her mother is a resident on Aspen Place. Director since 2011.

Past President of the Vantage House Residents’ Association. Retired from nursing with over 40 years experience, most recently as a public health nurse with the Baltimore County Health Department. Graduate of the Union Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore, MD. Active in the Alumni Association. An early Columbia resident, having moved to the area in 1968. Resident of Vantage House for nearly 12 years. Director since 2010.
 
Claire C. Lea
Columbia, Maryland
Claire C. Lea is retired from Winter Growth, Inc. She has had 15 years of experience working with the senior population. During her tenure at Winter Growth she served in the areas of social services, adult medical day care, assisted living and therapeutic activities. She also was the volunteer administrator, human resources coordinator, and was the assistant to the director of the Ruth Keeton Center Complex. Ms. Lea holds a B.A. degree from University of Maryland, Baltimore County in Interdisciplinary Studies, with the emphasis on geriatrics and women studies. She has been active in the Columbia community since 1968 in many capacities. Among others, she was president of Wilde Lake Cooperative Nursery School, a founder of Longfellow Friends of the Traditional Fourth, a volunteer at the Domestic Violence Center, and the administrative assistant to Harper’s Choice Village Association. She has served on the Boards of Candlelight Concerts, Howard County Volunteer Administrators, and COGS (Coalition of Geriatric Services). She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Winter Growth, Inc. She is the former owner and operator of two local businesses, The Last Chance Saloon and J.K.’s Pub. Director since 2011.

Dorothy L. Rodbell
Columbia, Maryland
Social Worker in private practice working predominantly with adults who grew up in alcoholic families. She received her B.A. from the University of Maryland and an M.S.W. from the University of Maryland School of Social Work and Community Planning, where she remained on the faculty for several years. She consulted with small organizations to assist them in establishing Employee Assistance Programs, and has served on the Boards of the Sexual Assault Center and the Family Life Center. Director since 1999.
 
Charles Stark
Ellicott City, Maryland
Retired, United States Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) in the Baltimore Hearing Office of the Social Security Administration. Judge Stark’s mother resides in the Health Center. Between 1994 and 1997 Judge Stark served as an ALJ in New Haven, Connecticut. Between 1977 and 1994 Judge Stark served as a trial attorney for the Interstate Commerce Commission in Washington, D.C. He argued numerous ICC cases involving railroads before the United States Courts of Appeals. Several of his cases reached the United States Supreme Court. In one noteworthy case, Amtrak v. Boston and Main R.R., then Acting Solicitor General (now Chief Justice) John Roberts successfully argued the Government’s cause. Judge Stark received a BS in Business Administration from the University of Maryland College Park and a JD from the University of Maryland Baltimore. He is currently a Judicial Member of the District of Columbia Bar and an inactive member of the Maryland Bar. Director since 2007.
 
B. Owen Williams
Ellicott City, Maryland
Vice President, Asset Management, Construction and Asset Resolution for Enterprise Community Investment, Inc.; former Vice President / Director of Acquisitions and Associate General Counsel of The Rouse Company. He has extensive experience in the acquisition, sale and development of commercial properties, and has also previously served as Chair of the Board of the Interfaith Housing Corporation in Columbia. Mr. Williams holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Harvard College (cum laude), and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Harvard Law School. Director since 2004.
 
Barbara Resnick Columbia, Maryland  Health Care Consultant

Professor of Nursing, Adult Health Department, University of Maryland School of Nursing, Baltimore, MD; Certified Gerontological Nurse Practitioner and Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She has broad clinical, research, teaching and consulting experience in the field of adult and gerontological health, and has been published widely on a range of related matters. Dr. Resnick has received numerous professional awards for her work, federally funded research grants, and has been an active participant in service to professional and health related community organizations. She received a B.S.N. from the University of Connecticut, an M.S.N. from the University of Pennsylvania, and a PhD from the University of Maryland. Director since 2003.

 

 

K. Stanley Sokolove Marina del Ray, California                    Strategic Planning Consultant        

President, Sokolove Development LLC; Senior Living Development Consultant/Owner’s Representative; former Executive Vice President and Partner of Coventry Development L.P. and Vice President of Coventry Resources LP, developers and consultants, respectively, of senior living communities. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects, Vice-Chairman of the Senior Housing Council of the Urban Land Institute, a member of the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA), and was an elected member of the first Columbia Town Center Village Board. Mr. Sokolove received a Bachelor of Architecture from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and is a licensed Architect. Director since 1999.
