Ed Propper:
Leader Enjoys Representing Residents When their new park-like gardens and gazebo open in the spring, Vantage House residents will see the fruits -- or, rather, flowers -- of their labor.
Of course, their labor wasn’t physical. Professionals are creating the much-anticipated addition to the Columbia life care retirement community. But, the concept itself came from the Residents’ Association. Ed Propper is proud of his leadership there and likes to keep the ideas flowing.
“I am vociferous and opinionated,” Propper says, explaining with a smile how he came to be nominated. “I guess people thought I would speak up.”
Ed, and his wife, Augusta, are New York natives, but spent the last 35 years in California. The couple moved to Vantage House in May 2005, to be near their daughter and son-in-law who reside in Columbia.
“We residents are set for life,” he adds, referring to the continuing care
provided to all residents. “But a resident-initiated project like the Sidwell Gardens will just add another dimension to living here.”
Propper is a retired aviation engineer with American Airlines and the former New York Airways’ Helicopter Airline. Augusta Propper is a retired middle school math teacher.
“When we lived in Santa Rosa I was playing golf five times a week,” he says. “I no longer do that, with the change of seasons here in Maryland, but there are plenty of activities at Vantage House to keep anyone busy who wants to participate.”
