Lillian Kersh:
Music To Her Neighbors’ Ears If you attend a Vantage House Chorus performance, you’ll find Lillian Kersh at the piano. Music is her passion, and there’s nothing she loves more than sharing it with her neighbors.
Until last year, Kersh’s life was filled with music. She gave recitals and taught young students. But then she fell and fractured her right arm and hand.
“I went from being a very independent person to a dependent one,” she says.
At the time, she was living in North Carolina. But living in a big house all by herself was lonely, and she needed help. So she decided to move to Maryland to be closer to her daughters. One lives in Columbia; the other is in New York. It was her daughter, Barbara, who did the research and selected Vantage House for her mother.
While she misses her life in North Carolina, Kersh says, “I believe in dealing with whatever I’m dealt.” And she enjoys Vantage House and all the cultural activities it offers.
Today her big, beautiful and very old Steinway graces her living room. And in addition to accompanying the chorus, she recently participated in a musical program for her neighbors at Vantage House.
“This is a good place and I’m taking full advantage of all it has to offer so I like to give something back by making use of my music skills,” she says.
