The ABC’S of Evaluating Your Senior Living Options

As you research your senior living options—who offers what, the terms, the benefits, the actual costs—you are probably left with many questions. Let us help you sort out the difference with the ABC’s of Continuing Care Retirement Communities.

Moving to a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) offers an unsurpassed quality of life which enhances one’s independence. For example, at Vantage House you may enjoy the privacy of your own apartment, while becoming involved in a wide array of Life-Long Learning, Cultural, Fitness and Spiritual Programs. Health Care is also available within CCRC’s, but how you pay for your future health care becomes the basis of comparison.

It is important to read the fine print, check the services offered, compare the benefits and tabulate what your actual your costs will be, before deciding which senior living community is the best fit for you.

There Are Three Basic Types of CCRC Contracts:

Type A – Life Care (or Extensive Contract)

  • Monthly Fee includes residential housing, with all inclusive services and amenities.
  • Monthly Fee includes unlimited, onsite Assisted Living and Nursing Care with virtually no increase in the Monthly Fee—no matter the length of time you may need the Health Care.
  • Vantage House offers Type A – Life Care.

Type B – Modified Contract

  • Monthly Fee includes residential housing, services and amenities.
  • Monthly Fee includes specified amount of Nursing Care—usually 30-60 days for the life of the contract. After this specified amount of Nursing Care is used, the resident must pay the market daily rate for Assisted Living and Nursing Care.

Type C – Fee-for-Service Contract

  • Monthly Fee includes residential living with some services.
  • Other services including Health Care are an additional cost to the resident.
  • Each resident will pay a significantly higher fee for all Assisted Living and Nursing Care.
  • The cost for Assisted Living may typically average $5600 + per month depending on level of care. The cost for Nursing Care may typically average $8,000+ per month depending on level of care.
  • Vantage House offers the Type C – Fee-for-Service Contract.
