As you’re sorting out your retirement living options — who offers what, the terms, the benefits and the actual costs of retirement communities — you probably have more questions than answers. To help you compare "apples to apples,” here are the answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about continuing care communities and life care at Vantage House.

What is Extensive Contract Continuing Care, and how is it different from other options?
An Extensive Contract, like that offered at Vantage House, is the only option that provides an all-inclusive lifestyle package of accommodations and services with unlimited access to recuperative or long-term nursing care in our on-site Health Center at virtually no increase in your monthly fee. With fewer worries about the affordability or availability of future health care, you’ll be free to enjoy the active, independent lifestyle awaiting you at Vantage House.

How is Extensive Contract at Vantage House more affordable than other Continuing Care Communities?
At Vantage House, you don’t have to pay for extra services and health care “a la carte,” which can really add up, especially in the event of a health challenge for you or your spouse. You’ll never have to worry about finding, or financing, the highest-quality health care. You can’t predict the future, but you can plan for it and be prepared so financial surprises don't deplete your nest egg.

The reality is skilled nursing care is very expensive — on average, $7,000 or more per month. Fee-for-service contract communities require you to pay for each service as you need it, which can quickly add up in the event of a health issue. With an Extensive Contract at Vantage House, one affordable monthly fee covers more than any other retirement program in the area. And Vantage House is the only community in Howard County to offer the Extensive Contract. Simply put, Vantage House offers you much more for your dollar.

In addition, Vantage House lets you choose one of two smart financial options. You can decide on a 50-Month Declining Refund Option with a lower entrance fee, or a 90 Percent Refund Option that refunds 90 percent of your entrance fee to you or your estate ... no matter how long you live at the community. In addition, a portion of your monthly fee may be tax deductible.

What if I already have Long Term Care Insurance?
Vantage House requires that all residents have adequate health insurance. It’s helpful if they have long term care insurance because it complements the Extensive Contract. This choice locks in your future health care at Vantage House. Most long term care insurance policies do not guarantee where you’ll receive care, so you may end up settling for less than expected care at an undesirable location. The nursing care you receive in the Vantage House Health Center is provided at virtually no increase in your monthly fee. Long term care insurance can cover items such as medical supplies, additional meals and Health Center private room charges.
